Christmas Treats

What's Christmas without some tradition treats here and there to spark up the festivities. I thought i would create two chocolate treats that are super easy to make and everyone can enjoy. I decided to go with a peppermint flavored theme for both recipes because why not its Christmas!!!! I made these on Christmas day and everyone loved them. What i love about both these recipes is you can alter them in many different ways.

First off is a bit of a classic as you see them everywhere, but i just had to make them. Chocolate candy cane hearts. These are crazy easy and look so cute on the table.

You only need three ingredients: 12 peppermint candy canes small (or more you can make as many as you want just make sure you have two candy canes for one lolly) 200g chocolate (You can use any type of chocolate white, dark) Sprinkles (Chrismassy ones are preferred)

You will need: Baking tray Popsical sticks piping bag (zip lock bag) baking paper
1) Place your candy canes into heart shapes on a baking tray lined with baking paper.
2) Whilst placing up candy canes add a popsical stick between the point of your hearts if you want them like lollipops otherwise skip this step.
3) Melt your chocolate in the microwave or on a double boiler on the stove.
4) Once chocolate is melted spoon or pour into a pipping bag or sealed zip lock bag and cut off end. You can spoon the mixture into the hearts if you would prefer but using some sort of pipping bag gives you more control for a smooth finish when they set.
5) Start filling in each candy cane heart with the chocolate.
6) After filling in hearts with chocolate sprinkle your decorations/sprinkles ontop.
7)Put your baking sheet into the fridge until set
That's it for the first one they look super festive and it looks like you spent ages making them which you didn't!

This next one is my absolute favorite and i plan on making these a tradition for Christmas. Oreo peppermint truffles. Don't they sound amazing? You may think they are complicated especially as they are called truffles but don't worry they are super easy and taste so good.

Ingredients:
1 packet (432.33 grams) or two small packets of mint Oreo's
226.796 grams of cream cheese
2 cups of dark chocolate or dark chocolate melts
3 Tbs crushed peppermint candy canes (For the top decoration)

If you can't find peppermint Oreo's which is the issue i had as they don't have them in New Zealand buy plain Oreo's. Use some peppermint essence about one cap full and add to oreo mixture. And if you don't like mint at all of course just use normal Oreo's it will taste just as good.

1) Again you will start off buy getting a baking tray and lining it with some baking paper non stick. 2) Empty all your Oreo packets into a blender and crush them up until they are fine. An alternative to this is putting them into a zip lock bag and bashing them with a rolling pin to get the same outcome. 3) In a large bowl with an electric whisk, stir up all the cream cheese until well creamed. 4) stir the cookie crumbs into the cream cheese. 5) Roll mixture into 1 Tbs sized balls, place onto baking tray. 6) Transfer the truffles into the freezer for 15-20 mins 7) Heat all your chocolate in microwave or on a double boiler. 8) Dip truffles into the chocolate i did this with a spoon covering up the whole truffle and placing back on to a baking tray. 9) Sprinkle the crushed candy canes (Which you can do same way as Oreo's in a bag with a rolling pin)on top of truffle as you dip them. 10) Once all truffles have been dipped place them in the fridge until set.

The truffles are by far my favorite recipe as they were extremely easy to make and look impressive. They are very rich so one is often enough.Just because Christmas is over i don't think that means you can't make them, the festive season is only over on New Years!! And then Easter is just around the corner. I think these treats are suitable for any party or special occasion. I hope every one had a wonderful Christmas.I had so much fun making these thank you so much for reading. Which recipe is your favorite? leave a comment and enjoy your holidays mwah xx
